A Woman Burned Alive Over Rs 36 Lakh Dowry

26-year-old Nikki Bhati was burned alive by her husband and mother-in-law over dowry in Noida. The viral video of the attack has sparked outrage and renewed calls to end dowry violence.

A shocking case of dowry violence has emerged from Sirsa village near Noida. On 21st August 2025, 26-year-old Nikki Bhati was allegedly burned alive by her husband, Vipin Bhati, with the help of his mother, Dayavati. The horrific act was witnessed by Nikki’s five-year-old son and her younger sister, Kanchan, who also recorded the incident on video.

According to reports, Nikki was first slapped, then doused in kerosene, and set on fire with a lighter. The video quickly went viral, sparking nationwide outrage. Kanchan immediately called the police, filed an FIR, and helped rush Nikki to Fortis Hospital, Greater Noida. She was later referred to Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi, but died on the way due to severe burns.

Nikki and her sister married into the Bhati family in 2016. At that time, their family gave a huge dowry, including a Scorpio SUV, motorcycles, a Mercedes, gold, cash, and more. Despite this, Nikki was continuously harassed for additional money. Her in-laws allegedly demanded up to ?36 lakh more and pressured her to hand over her beauty parlour earnings.

Over nine years, both sisters faced continuous abuse. Nikki’s father, Bhikari Singh Payla, said, “They tortured her and finally killed her. The whole family is responsible.”

Police have arrested Vipin and Dayavati, and the viral video is being used as key evidence. Nikki’s tragic death has once again exposed the dangers of dowry culture in India, demanding urgent change and justice.
