Despite strong laws, women are still becoming victims of terrible crimes.
In a recent case, a 46-year-old air hostess was allegedly sexually assaulted while she was on ventilator support in a private hospital in Gurugram.
She had gone to Gurugram for training on behalf of her company and was staying at a hotel. During her stay, she almost drowned in the hotel’s swimming pool and was admitted to a hospital. Later, as her health got worse, she was shifted to Medanta Hospital on 5th April 2025.
On 6th April, while she was unconscious and on a ventilator, some hospital staff allegedly assaulted her. She later shared that she felt inappropriate touch but was unable to move, scream, or stop them due to her critical condition. She also said that two nurses were present but did not help.
After being discharged, she told her husband about the assault on 13th April. He immediately informed the police and filed a complaint.
A case was registered at the Sadar Police Station. The police are checking duty charts and CCTV footage to catch the accused.
Medanta Hospital confirmed they are cooperating with the investigation. They also said that, at this stage, no allegations have been fully proven and they have given all documents and CCTV footage to the police.
In another shocking case from Karnataka, a woman named Shabina Banu was assaulted outside a mosque.
38-year-old Shabina, a domestic worker from Davanagere, was visited by her relative Nasreen on 7th April 2025. Nasreen stayed overnight, and a man named Fayaz also visited the house.
When Shabina’s husband, Jameel Ahmed Shameer, returned and saw Nasreen and Fayaz, he got upset and complained to the local Jama Masjid.
The mosque committee called Shabina, Nasreen, and Fayaz to come on 9th April 2025.
There, a group of 6 men attacked Shabina with sticks, pipes, clubs, and even stones. She said they tried to kill her.
A video of the assault was circulated on social media, leading to public outrage.
Police arrested all 6 accused — Mohammad Niyaz, Mohammad Gauspeer, Chand Basha, Inayat Ullah, Dastagir, and Rasool.
Shabina lodged a formal complaint on 11th April under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
A special investigation team has been formed, and the investigation is ongoing.
