On 7 March 2019, The Chief Minister of Assam Mr Sarbananda Sonowal, laid the foundation stone for the “North East College for Hearing Impaired”. The CM said that this college will help Deaf people complete their higher education. He said this college is not only meant for Deaf students in Assam but for Students from all over the Northeast will now be able to pursue higher education in this college.  

The State government of Assam has said that they will provide the college with all the resources to provides quality education to the students. The CM said that the State Government’s budget had declared to provide Rs 5000 financial assistance for medical purposes to the Divyangjans. The Budget had also said that Rs 1,000 stipend would be given every month to Divyangjans. He said that the government has worked very hard to fulfil all their promises.

In 2017 the CM had also set up a Industrial Training Institute (ITI) for Divyangjans in Dibrugarh, Assam.

According to him since the PM Modi came to power, the BJP government has started many initiatives for the socio-economic and educational development of Divyangjans. He said his government will work very hard to encourage their talents.
