Ayush Malik or Mohammad Ali: Love Jihad or Property Jihad?
A Shamli family's conversion controversy has sparked a legal battle, with Ayush Malik claiming his conversion to Islam and marriage were personal choices, while his family alleges a larger conspiracy
Before using this publicly, make sure the facts and allegations are verified and presented carefully, since the matter is under investigation and involves competing claims.
A family dispute from Shamli, Uttar Pradesh, has turned into a major controversy after allegations of forced religious conversion surfaced.
Ayush Malik, the only son of a wealthy businessman, says his journey towards Islam began during his school days. After years of studying the religion, he claims he converted around 2012–13, long before meeting Chandni Qureshi, a gym trainer from Shamli.
The two later fell in love and married according to Islamic customs, keeping the marriage secret from Ayush's family for several years.
The controversy erupted in June 2026 after claims were made that Ayush had been converted as part of a larger conspiracy. Following this, his father filed a police complaint accusing Chandni, her family and several religious figures of influencing his son and attempting to gain control of family assets worth crores. Chandni and her father were subsequently arrested.
Ayush strongly rejects these allegations. He says his conversion was a personal decision made years before he met Chandni and insists that neither religion nor property played any role in their relationship. He has also stated that he is willing to forgo his share of the family's wealth and wants all property transferred to his mother and sisters.
Despite the ongoing dispute, Ayush says he still loves his parents and does not want to choose between his family and his wife. He has now adopted the name Mohammad Ali but says his mother still affectionately calls him by his childhood name, Lavkush.
With both sides presenting completely different versions of events, the case remains under investigation.
