On 20th August 2025, Delhi was shocked when Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was attacked inside her own residence during a Jan Sunwai, a public meeting where citizens share their problems. The attacker, identified as 41-year-old Sakariya Rajeshbhai Khimjibhai from Gujarat, entered with documents like other visitors. At first, he appeared calm, but when his turn came, he suddenly slapped the Chief Minister, pulled her hair, and shouted angrily.
Security guards quickly stopped him, and police later confirmed that he had done a recce of the residence a day earlier, showing signs of planning. Rekha Gupta was checked by doctors and thankfully did not suffer serious injuries. By afternoon, she addressed the public, calling the attack a cowardly act and promised to continue working for the people of Delhi with even more strength.
Leaders across BJP, AAP, and Congress condemned the incident, saying violence should never be part of politics. Police assured tighter security for elected representatives. Social media was flooded with support, with hashtags like #StandWithRekha trending as thousands praised her courage and demanded strict action against the attacker.
Though the day began with fear, Rekha Gupta’s brave response after the attack gave Delhi a message of hope and resilience.
