Goa Chief Minister after a long battle with Pancreatic Cancer succumbs at his residence on 17 March 2019.

He was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer in February 2018 and has been in and out of hospitals India and abroad. At the time of his death he was taking treatment at home. Even during his illness he continued to work from home. He was the first BJP Chief Minister of Goa. He was elected at the CM of Goa for the first time in 2000. Manohar Parrikar was the CM of Goa three times.

Mr Parrikar worked very hard and was respected by everyone in the BJP party. In 2014 he was elected as the Defence Minister of India. As the Defence Minister after the Uri attack, on 29 September 2016 he was responsible of leading the surgical strike against Pakistan. A Military General said that he was extremely sharp and was quick at grasping problems. After his death the Goa government declared a one-day holiday on Monday 18 March, and also a seven-day mourning for him. The state government also postponed the HSC examination which was to be conducted on 18 March 2019.

No decision regarding the next CM has been taken yet. BJP is keen to elect the next CM from  their party. Although after Parrikar’s death, the Congress now has a majority members in the State Assembly will most likely form the new government and chose the next CM.
