Three Relatives Arrested After Five Members of a Family Die in Greater Noida
Police in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, have arrested three relatives on allegations of abetment to suicide after five members of a family, including three children, were found dead at their home on 17 October 2026.
The deceased were identified as Mahesh, 37, his wife Lalita, 35, and their three children, aged 3, 7 and 11. Police are investigating the circumstances of their deaths, including a possible property dispute and audio recordings found on Mahesh’s mobile phone.
Five Family Members Found Dead at Home
According to reports, the family returned home after attending an event on 16 October. They ate dinner and went to sleep. Reports said they had eaten noodles and drank tea that night. The next morning, all five family members were found dead inside their home in the Rabupura area of Greater Noida.
Mahesh’s mother, Chandrawati, was also living in the house. She survived the incident. Reports said she had not eaten the same food as the other family members that night.
Police initially suspected food poisoning. However, post-mortem examinations later indicated signs of poisoning. Samples were sent for forensic laboratory tests to help establish the exact cause of death.
Police Investigate Audio Recordings and Property Dispute
During the investigation, police recovered audio recordings from Mahesh’s mobile phone. According to police, Mahesh allegedly named his two sisters, Sunita and Sapna, and his brother-in-law, Shekhar, in the recordings.
Police are investigating a possible property dispute within the family. According to preliminary information gathered from neighbours and relatives, Mahesh was reportedly upset after his mother transferred the house where he lived to his elder sister’s name. Police also examined CCTV footage from the area around the house. According to police, the footage did not show any outsider entering the premises during the incident.
These findings are part of the ongoing investigation and do not, by themselves, establish how the five family members died.
Three Relatives Arrested
Following a complaint filed by Lalita’s brother, police arrested Sunita, Sapna and Shekhar on allegations of abetment to suicide. The three relatives are being questioned as part of the investigation. Police are examining the audio recordings, forensic evidence and other available information to understand the circumstances that led to the deaths.
The exact cause and circumstances of the five deaths remain under investigation. The allegations against the three arrested relatives have not been proven in court.
