Hindu Boy Sacrificed on Bakri Eid: Accused Shot Dead by Police
A Ghaziabad teenager's murder after a Bakrid-day dispute sparked widespread outrage, multiple arrests, and an encounter in which the main accused, Asad, was killed by police.
A Bakrid visit turned tragic for 17-year-old Surya Pratap Chauhan from Ghaziabad after a dispute at a friend's house allegedly escalated into a violent attack.
According to police, Surya was stabbed during an argument after refusing to watch a goat being slaughtered. Despite his injuries, he reportedly ran for help before collapsing. He later succumbed to his wounds on 29 May, and the case was upgraded from attempted murder to murder.
Police named multiple accused in the case and launched a large-scale search operation. Several suspects were arrested, while the main accused, Asad, remained absconding.
The incident sparked outrage, with Surya's family and Hindu organisations demanding swift justice. Tensions escalated as the family delayed his last rites and called for strict action against all those involved.
Days later, police tracked down Asad following intelligence inputs. According to officials, he opened fire when intercepted, leading to an exchange of gunfire in which he was fatally injured. A police officer was also wounded during the operation.
While Surya's family welcomed the development, they demanded proof of Asad's death and continued to seek strict punishment for the remaining accused. The investigation remains ongoing.
