India-France Seal Agreement for Maritime Security
India’s space research organisation ISRO and CNES its French counterpart have signed an agreement to set up a marine surveillance system in India. This system will utilise the satellites to detect, id
ISRO is the Indian Space Research Organisation and CNES which is France’s National Centre for Space Studies. On 6th March 2019, K Sivan the Chairman of ISRO and Jean-Yves Le Gall, President of CNES of France signed an agreement in Bengaluru.
They signed an agreement to set up a joint marine surveillance system in India. This will be set up in May this year. As per the agreement, India and france will send satellites to detect, identify and track ships all over the world, and specially for the ships in the Indian ocean.
The two countries will also share data from their present space systems. The project was had been discussed when France President Emmanuel Macron had visited India in March 2018.
