Is BJP Buying 40 AAP MLAs for Rs. 800 crore?

Arvind Kejriwal has accused the BJP of trying to break his party by offering Rs 800 crore to 40 of his MLA’s for joining BJP.

A high-voltage drama emerged on Thursday 25th August, with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal calling the AAP MLAs at his residence after he accused the BJP of trying to break his party by offering Rs 800 crore to 40 of his MLA’s for switching sides and joining BJP. The day began with AAP leaders claiming that nearly a dozen party MLAs cannot be communicated after the meeting at the chief minister’s residence. However, after the head count was done later, they said they accounted for all the 62 party MLAs. 53 MLAs physically attended the meeting that concluded within minutes, including Kejriwal. Seven MLAs including Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia & Speaker Ram Niwas Goelwere were out of the station while minister Satyendra Jain is in jail, meanwhile Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan had joined the meeting over the phone, said Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj.

However, there are a total 70 Seats in Delhi, 62 of which are occupied by MLAs of the Aam Aadmi Party, whereas the remaining 8 Seats are occupied by the BJP MLAs. After the meeting, Kejriwal visited Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial at  Rajghat along with Aam Aadmi Party MLAs to pray for the country, showing that the AAP government is stable as his party's MLAs are not for sale. The majority mark in Delhi to form a government is 36, so if the BJP would have got an opportunity to topple 40 AAP MLAs, they would have reached the total score of 48, which easily surpasses the majority mark of 36.

The BJP hit back hard, saying the AAP’s allegations were like a “movie script”. Also, just a few hours after AAP MLAs visited Rajghat, BJP leaders sprinkled Ganga water to “purify” the memorial. Commenting on the issue, Congress leader Alka Lamba termed the Rajghat visit of AAP MLAs as a “high voltage drama”, questioning why the AAP is not approaching police or ED about these attempts made by the BJP and assured them of Congress’ support if their claims are true.

After Kejriwal visited the Rajghat along with his MLAs, while addressing the press, he mentioned that the BJP needed 40 MLAs to topple the Delhi government. He also said that the BJP has kept aside Rs 800 crore for toppling the Delhi government. People of the country want to know about the source of this money- is it from GST or the PM CARES Fund? Have some of their friends given them this money? He said the AAP MLAs prayed at Rajghat for peace to prevail in the country at a time “attempts” were being made to “topple state governments”. Earlier, the BJP has successfully toppled the Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh & Goa governments. They’re after the Delhi Government now, they are setting a dangerous precedent for this country, Kejriwal further added. The Kejriwal government has also called a special session of Delhi Assembly to discuss the current probe and raids by CBI and ED involving party ministers and the alleged buying attempt of AAP MLAs by the BJP.
