‘Kala Hiran’: A Movie on Salman Khan Blackbuck Case is Coming?
The upcoming film Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy, inspired by Salman Khan's blackbuck case, has sparked legal controversy over its alleged resemblance to real-life events and personalities.
A new controversy has erupted around the upcoming film Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy, which is said to be inspired by the 1998 blackbuck hunting case involving actor Salman Khan.
The original case dates back to October 1998, when Salman Khan was accused of hunting two blackbucks near Kankani during the shooting of the movie Hum Saath Saath Hain. Members of the Bishnoi community, who consider blackbucks sacred, filed a complaint. After a long legal battle, Salman Khan was convicted in 2018 and sentenced to five years in prison before being granted bail.
The controversy resurfaced in 2026 when producer Amit Jani announced Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy, describing it as a film inspired by the blackbuck case and dedicated to Guru Jambheshwar Bhagwan and the Bishnoi community.
The issue intensified after the teaser was released on 12 June. Actor Kashif Iqbal Khan plays a character named Ayaan Khan, whose appearance, mannerisms, black T-shirt, and signature bracelet reminded many viewers of Salman Khan. The teaser also features a jailed underworld figure called "Lion Bishnoi," whom many believe resembles gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
Although the filmmakers included a disclaimer stating that all characters are fictional, criticism continued to grow.
Veteran actor Govind Namdev, who appears in the film as a lawyer representing the Bishnoi community, publicly distanced himself from the project after watching the teaser. He said he was "shaken to the core," claiming the story shown was completely different from what had originally been narrated to him under the title Sambhal.
Namdev stated that he was never told a character resembling Salman Khan would be portrayed in this manner and stressed that he would never knowingly participate in a film targeting the actor.
Meanwhile, Salman Khan approached the Delhi High Court seeking a stay on the film's production, promotion, release, and streaming. His legal team argued that the movie violates his personality rights, misrepresents events, and clearly refers to him through the teaser and promotional material.
The court has issued notices to the filmmakers and scheduled the next hearing for 19 June 2026. While the film's release date remains unknown, the legal battle surrounding it is already making headlines.
