Lawyer Pays Rs.90,518 for an Auto Ride!

A young lawyer in Mumbai ended up paying Rs.90,518 for a short auto ride from Andheri to Bandra. It happened because he gave his phone and password to the driver for payment.

A 30-year-old lawyer from Haryana lost over ?90,000 in Mumbai after trusting an auto rickshaw driver. The man was visiting Mumbai and had gone out with friends in Andheri on the night of 16th May 2025.

After the night out, around 3:00 am, he was trying to return to Bandra. When he stopped an auto rickshaw, the driver refused to go by meter and asked for ?1,500 instead.

The lawyer, who is near-sighted, had left his glasses at the restaurant and couldn’t see his phone screen clearly. He gave his phone and password to the auto driver to help make the payment through Google Pay.

But instead of ?1,500, the driver transferred ?90,518 from his account to another person named Mohammed Furkan Shaikh. The money was quickly moved through several accounts and withdrawn.

The lawyer realised the fraud only after waking up the next morning. He immediately went to the police and filed a complaint. An FIR has been registered and the police are now investigating the case. They are trying to catch the driver and recover the stolen money.
Always be careful with your phone and payment apps. Never share your password with anyone, especially strangers.
