Lucknow: Doctor Arrested For Raping Patient Inside Operation Theatre
A Lucknow doctor was arrested for allegedly raping a sedated 20-year-old epilepsy patient inside his hospital’s operation theatre, sparking outrage over patient safety.
A shocking case has emerged from Lucknow, where a 30-year-old doctor was arrested for allegedly raping a 20-year-old patient inside the operation theatre of his private hospital.
The survivor, who was undergoing treatment for epilepsy at Tejas Hospital in the Indaurabagh area, was allegedly sedated before the assault.
According to the family, the girl developed breathing difficulty on 21st May, after which hospital owner Dr. Vijay Kumar Giri took her to the operation theatre, claiming she needed oxygen support. Her sister and a nurse were initially inside but were later asked to leave.
The victim alleged that the doctor injected her with an anaesthetic through an IV line, causing her to lose consciousness. When she regained partial senses, she realised she had been assaulted. She rushed out of the OT in tears and informed her family.
An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the SC/ST Act, as the survivor belongs to the Dalit community.
Police detained the accused, seized key evidence, and sent the survivor for medical examination. Officials said the doctor admitted to the crime during questioning and was later arrested.
Following the incident, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Brajesh Pathak ordered the hospital to be sealed and directed authorities to begin proceedings to suspend the doctor’s medical licence.
The case has once again raised serious concerns over patient safety and accountability in private healthcare facilities.
