Man Gives Helmets to People for Free

In memory of a friend who died in a road mishap, computer engineer Raghavendra Kumar, 34, has distributed 49,000 helmets for free in the last 7 years.

In India it is compulsory to wear a helmet while riding a bike. However people continue to ignore this rule. Because of this there have been many dangerous accidents and deaths. Raghavendra Kumar, 34, is an engineer. In 2014 his friend KK Thakur, who was from Bihar’s Madhubani district, lost his life in a road mishap in Noida. He was riding a bike without a helmet. This is why Kumar has been distributing helmets to people for free in his friend’s memory so that no other person suffers like this. In the last seven years, Kumar claimed to have distributed 49,272 helmets in 22 states, including Delhi, Bihar, UP, MP, Rajasthan, Haryana, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Himachal Pradesh. Kumar also distributed the highest number of helmets -- 13000 -- in Bihar. He did all this with his own money. He has spent a total of Rs 2 crore till now. There was a time when he had no money to buy helmets. That time he sold some of his personal land and used that money to buy helmets. He even requested big companies to give money so that people can wear helmets and India becomes accident free. We hope his story inspires you all and that you all wear a helmet while riding a bike. This will save your life!
