Mantralaya Sets Up New Department For Deaf

Dhananjay Munde, is the Minister for Social Justice and Special Assistance. Munde was speaking at a meeting held at the ministry regarding the various demands of the state-level Deaf Association. Social Justice and Special Assistance Department Secretary Parag Jain, Social Welfare Commissioner  Pravin Darade, Divyang Kalyan Commissioner Prasar Deshbhatar, office bearers of the state level deaf association and officials of the social justice department were present.He has said that the government is working hard to provide educational facilities and other facilities for the Deaf. 

According to Munde, a separate information department would be set up in the ministry along with the sign language experts to solve the problems of the deaf in Maharashtra and to inform them of the decisions taken by the government.Munde said the decision will be taken to appoint teachers trained in sign language for deaf students and higher education to improve the quality education for deaf students in schools.  

Mr Munde will soon have a meeting with the Department of Technical Education and SLAD to discuss training  deaf students on ITI background.Regarding the introduction of Sign Language Degree Course, the Government is positive and the decision of the Government regarding the issue of disability will be sent to deaf schools and deaf working organizations.
