Nitish Kumar Leaves BJP & Joins Hands With Tejashwi Yadav

An hour after resigning as Bihar's chief minister, Nitish Kumar on Tuesday returned to Patna's Raj Bhavan with Tejashwi Yadav to stake claim to form a new government—led by Mahagathbandhan 2.0.

Coalition partners in Bihar since 2017, the JD(U) and BJP had been at loggerheads in the recent past due to a variety of issues. Since 2017, the JD(U) and the BJP have formed a government in Bihar.Bihar’s CM was Nitish Kumar. However recently there have been a lot of problems between the BJP and the JD(U).

There were rumours, former Union minister and JD(U) leader RCP Singh's growing proximity with BJP. In June, PM Narendra Modi had said that the Central Government will not conduct a caste based census. But Nitish Kumar said even if the central government does not do the caste census, in Bihar he will make sure the caste census is done. That time RJD Chief Tesjashwi Yadav backed him completely.

Kumar has skipped several meetings with BJP recently, signaling his disappointment with the BJP. There were strong rumors that something was going to happen. The suddenly on 9 August 2022, Nitish Kumar went to the Governor of Bihar and handed over his resignation. People were extremely shocked and wondered what would happen next. This is because for the last 5 years JD(U) & BJP had a very strong alliance. Less than an hour later, Nitish Kumar again went to the governor. But this time he went with Lalu Prasad Yadav’s son Tejashwi Yadav who is the chief of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). So basically Kumar and Yadav;s JD(U) & RJD have joined hands. They said they have the support of 7 parties and 164 MLAs. This came as a huge shocker to people. As JD(U) and RJD were strong rivals and now they seem to become friends.

People have descried Nitish Kumar as a power hungry politician who will turn any foe into a friend, just to have the top seat. In 1996 Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) kioined hands with the BJP. They were together for 17 years. Suddenly in 2013, they broke up. Later JD(U), RJD, Congress and many other parties formed the Mahagathbandhan - The Grand Allaince. They was the largest political alliance. Then in 2017, Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) broke up with them and again joined BJP. That time he had said that Tejashwi Yadav was very corrupt and that he could not work with him. Now Nitish Kumar has left the BJP and joined Tejashwi Yadav. People are calling this alliance the Mahagathbandhan 2.0. What a smart and cunning politician. Now lets wait and watch what happens in Bihar.
