Operation Spider’s Web: Ukraine’s Big Drone Attack in Russia
Ukraine used drones to destroy more than 40 Russian warplanes in a big attack inside Russia.
On 1 June 2025, Ukraine surprised the world with a secret mission called “Operation Spider’s Web”. This smart drone attack destroyed many powerful Russian warplanes and showed how strong and clever Ukraine’s military has become.
The war between Russia and Ukraine started in 2022 and has continued for over three years. It all began after Russia took control of Crimea in 2014. Since then, both countries have been fighting hard. ISH has reported about this war earlier too.

Reports say Ukraine planned this operation for 1–2 years. First, small drones were moved to Russia’s border. Then, with help from secret agents inside Russia, these drones were hidden in trucks and wooden sheds near important airbases. The trucks carried drones deep into Russian areas.
When the right time came, the drones were launched. A viral video even shows them coming out of a truck. These drones attacked Russian airbases and destroyed more than 40 warplanes, including Tu-95 and Tu-22 bombers, which can carry nuclear bombs and cost nearly $2 billion each. They also damaged A-50 aircraft used for air surveillance.
The attacks happened in places like Belaya, Olenya, Dyagilevo, and Ivanovo. The drones used AI (Artificial Intelligence) and some were suicide drones that destroyed themselves along with the target. Videos of drones scanning planes before hitting their weak spots have gone viral.
The damage caused is around $7 billion. This makes it harder for Russia to attack Ukraine from the air. Russian President Vladimir Putin called an emergency meeting. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the US was not involved, but experts think America may have shared satellite images to help Ukraine. A photo of a Ukrainian general studying such maps has gone viral.
Recently, US President Donald Trump said Putin has “gone crazy” and is “playing with fire,” which makes US support more likely.
A peace meeting between Russia and Ukraine was planned for Monday, but now its future is unclear. This attack shows that the war is still very serious, and peace is needed soon.
India should also learn from this. Just like Ukraine used secret agents, India recently caught many Pakistani spies during Operation Sindoor. So staying alert is very important for our country too.
