Pakistan Bans Tinder & Grindr

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has banned dating 5 Apps which are Tinder, Grindr, Skout, SayHi and Tagged.

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has banned dating 5 Apps which are Tinder, Grindr, Skout, SayHi and Tagged. The government has said that these apps violated digital laws by spreading immoral and indecent content to the public. PTA said they had sent written notices to all the company but they failed to respond in time and hence the Apps have been banned. PTA has said they may remove the ban if the companies follow the rules and remove all indecent content. None of the companies have responded to the ban yet. 

 

Tinder was downloaded 440,000 times in Pakistan in the last 1 year. Grindr, Tagged and SayHi had 30,00,000 downloads each in the last 1 year. Skout has 10,000,00 downloads. Earlier, the PTA had sent warning notices to YouTube and TikTok about the explicit and vulgar content on their platforms. According to experts, Pakistan is banning such apps to control people’s right to free speech. They are also censoring all content that is against the Pakistan government.
