Shocking Crash In Goa! Speeding Thar Kills Tourist
A speeding Thar driven by Shaurya Goyal crashed into a car in Goa, killing 65-year-old Bhagat Ram Sharma, while police continue investigating the incident.
On the morning of 23 February 2026, Assagao in Goa was busy as usual with tourists, locals and rental vehicles moving around. Like many visitors to Goa, a group of four friends — three girls and one boy — had rented a vehicle to travel. They hired a Thar SUV. The car was being driven by 19-year-old Delhi student Shaurya Goyal.
At the same time, 65-year-old Bhagat Ram Sharma from Bhopal was travelling in a white Hyundai i20 with two relatives and a five-month-old baby. He was sitting in the rear seat of the car.
As both vehicles reached the Assagao junction, the Thar was reportedly moving at high speed. Suddenly, it rammed into the back of the Hyundai i20 with great force. The rear portion of the i20 was badly crushed. Local residents rushed to the spot after hearing the loud crash.
Inside the i20, the situation was serious. Bhagat Ram Sharma suffered critical injuries. The two other adults were injured but conscious, while the baby was safe. Eyewitnesses said Sharma was initially conscious after the accident. However, the ambulance reportedly took over an hour to arrive. By the time medical help reached, Sharma had died.
After the accident, some locals claimed there was confusion about who was driving the Thar. A few eyewitnesses alleged that one of the girls was driving at the time of the crash and that Shaurya later moved to the driver’s seat. However, police have rejected this claim.
A video that went viral on social media showed Shaurya stepping out of the Thar and calling someone on his phone. In the video, he is heard saying that he was driving when the sudden crash happened at the junction. The three girls were seen sitting in the back seats.
Police reached the spot, seized the Thar for investigation and took Shaurya into custody. A breathalyser test confirmed that he was not under the influence of alcohol. Police have officially named Shaurya as the driver in the FIR.
Shaurya’s mother, Shilpi Goyal, said her son was not drunk and had fully cooperated with the police. She said he did not try to run away and is emotionally disturbed by the incident. She also suggested that Bhagat Ram Sharma may have suffered a heart attack and that the delay in ambulance arrival could have worsened the situation.
Meanwhile, police are continuing their investigation by collecting CCTV footage, examining the damaged vehicles and recording statements of eyewitnesses.
