A few days earlier, Trump had said that after defeating Iran, he would declare the Strait of Hormuz a US territory. However, this does not mean that the Strait has officially become part of the United States.
Trump has made similar claims before. He has shared maps showing Canada and Greenland as part of the US. In response to his latest post, Iran shared a map showing the US state of California as part of Iran.
The exchange has led to a new social media war between the two countries. Experts believe these posts could be political moves aimed at attracting attention and voters ahead of the US midterm elections in November 2026.
The US is also facing concerns over inflation and economic problems during the war, which have added to public criticism of the government.
