Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Pushes Sri-Lankan Cricketer After Losing
Sri Lanka A defeated India A in a dramatic Super Over thriller filled with controversy, umpiring debates, and post-match tensions in the Tri-Nation A Series.
A thrilling match in the Tri-Nation A Series between India A and Sri Lanka A on 15 June in Dambulla had everything—drama, controversy, a Super Over, and heated exchanges between players.
India A posted a competitive total but were penalised 10 runs due to an error during a partnership. Chasing the target, Sri Lanka A fought back brilliantly, with Sadeera Samarawickrama scoring 93 runs. They managed to level the scores on the very last ball, forcing the match into a Super Over.
Before the Super Over began, fading light created uncertainty. India A captain Tilak Varma held lengthy discussions with the umpires, strongly insisting that play continue. After several minutes, officials agreed.
The drama continued in the Super Over when a waist-high full toss from Arshad Khan was initially treated as a legal delivery before being called a no-ball, leading to fresh discussions between the Indian team and match officials.
Needing 19 runs to win, India A fell short. Fifteen-year-old sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scored just 5 runs from 2 balls as Sri Lanka A sealed a memorable victory.
Emotions boiled over after the match as Sooryavanshi got into a verbal altercation with Sri Lankan players and appeared to push one of them. Veteran Niroshan Dickwella stepped in to calm the situation, while Indian teammates escorted the visibly frustrated youngster away.
The victory moved Sri Lanka A a step closer to securing a place in the Tri-Nation A Series final.
