Who Is Right? Sonam Wangchuk vs Modi Government?
NEET paper leak protests continue as political tensions and demands for accountability grow.

As many of you know, the NEET UG paper leak case is already being heard in the Supreme Court, and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is also investigating the matter. The case is against the National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts the exam, prepares the question papers, and manages the examination process.
So far, the CBI has arrested 13 people. According to the investigation, those arrested include an NTA subject expert accused of leaking the Chemistry paper, a senior Botany teacher accused of leaking Biology questions, a coaching centre owner, a doctor, a person accused of selling leaked papers on Telegram, and several middlemen and other people linked to the case.
The CJP has been demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. However, since the investigation is already being handled by the CBI and the matter is before the Supreme Court, many people have questioned why the protests are focused on seeking the minister's resignation.
On 21 July, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about the NEET paper leak during a meeting of NDA MPs in Parliament. He said the government acted quickly, arrested the accused, and conducted the NEET re-examination without delaying students' academic year. He also said those responsible for paper leaks should receive the strictest punishment.
On 23 July, PM Modi announced that the government would set up fast-track courts to ensure speedy trials and strict punishment in paper leak cases. He said those who try to harm the future of students would not be spared.
Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also responded to the protests through a post on X. He accused the Congress party of using students for politics and said the government was fully committed to discussing NEET and addressing students' genuine concerns. However, he did not comment on the demand for his resignation.
Meanwhile, several videos showing clashes between protesters and the police have gone viral. Some videos show police using force against protesters, while others show a few protesters attacking police personnel. These videos have led to strong reactions and political debate across the country.
Many opposition leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal and Uddhav Thackeray, also joined the protest rallies, leading to questions on social media about their participation.
Sonam Wangchuk has received widespread support for his hunger strike, with many people praising him as an engineer, education reformer, and climate activist. At the same time, some people have raised questions about his background.
Earlier, Ladakh Director General of Police S.D. Singh Jamwal had claimed that an arrested Pakistani spy had links with Wangchuk and alleged that sensitive information had been shared across the border. The officer also raised concerns about Wangchuk's visits to Pakistan and Bangladesh. In 2025, Wangchuk was arrested under the National Security Act during his hunger strike demanding statehood for Ladakh, but the case was later withdrawn.
Some people have also pointed out that Wangchuk comes from a political family, as his father, Sonam Wangyal, was a Congress leader in Ladakh.
These developments have sparked a nationwide debate over the protests, the government's response, and the demands being raised.
