Mumbai has been ranked the 5th happiest city in the world and the happiest city in Asia by the Time Out City Life Index 2025.

Mumbai has received global recognition after being ranked the 5th happiest city in the world in the Time Out City Life Index 2025. The survey spoke to over 18,000 people from major cities across the world to understand what makes them happy. In Mumbai, more than 95% of people said the city makes them happy, placing it at the top in Asia.

The survey looked at several factors such as quality of life, culture, nightlife, affordability, and how easy it is to walk around the city. The happiness score was based on statements like “My city makes me happy,” “People in my city seem happy,” and “I find joy in my daily life here.”

In Asia, Mumbai ranked No. 1, with 94% of residents saying the city brings them joy. More results from the survey show that 89% of Mumbaikars feel happier in Mumbai than anywhere else, 88% say people in the city seem positive, and 87% believe happiness has grown over time.

Experts say Mumbai feels happy because of its lively social life, entertainment options, many career opportunities, and its famous street-food culture. The city’s strong community spirit, festivals, art, night markets, and local gatherings all add to the overall joy and togetherness.

Asia’s Top 5 happiest cities include Mumbai, Beijing, Shanghai, Chiang Mai, and Hanoi.
World’s Top 5 happiest cities are Abu Dhabi, Medellín, Cape Town, Mexico City, and Mumbai.

Mumbai is the only Indian city in the global top 10, proving that even a fast and crowded city can make people feel positive, warm, connected, and truly happy.
