4-Months Pregnant SWAT Officer Killed by Husband
A pregnant Delhi Police SWAT commando was allegedly murdered by her husband in a dowry-related domestic violence case, shocking the nation.
A 27-year-old SWAT commando with the Delhi Police, Kajal Chaudhary, died after a brutal assault by her husband in West Delhi. Kajal was four months pregnant at the time of the attack. The case has shocked the public and raised serious concerns about domestic violence and dowry harassment.
Kajal joined the Delhi Police in 2022 and later cleared commando training to become part of the SWAT unit. Her husband, Ankur Chaudhary, worked as a clerk with the Ministry of Defence. Kajal’s brother, Nikhil, is also a constable in the Delhi Police.
Kajal and Ankur got married in November 2023 after being in a relationship for four years. They had a one-and-a-half-year-old son and were living in Mohan Garden, West Delhi. According to Kajal’s family, she was constantly harassed by her mother-in-law and two sisters-in-law over dowry. They allegedly kept demanding a car and cash, even though the family had already given expensive items like a Bullet bike and jewellery at the time of marriage.
Nikhil said Kajal was forced to do household work despite being pregnant and that Ankur had assaulted her earlier as well. Police confirmed that the couple often fought over money and household expenses.
On 22 January 2026, when their young son was staying with his maternal grandparents, Kajal and Ankur had a major argument over financial matters. During the fight, Kajal called her brother Nikhil for help. When Nikhil called her back, Ankur allegedly became angry, snatched the phone, and spoke to Nikhil directly. He reportedly told Nikhil to record the call and said, “Main maar raha hoon teri behen ko,” while the assault was taking place. Nikhil heard Kajal screaming before the call ended suddenly.
Around five minutes later, Ankur called Nikhil again and told him Kajal was dead, asking him to come to the hospital. Police investigations later revealed that Ankur had smashed Kajal’s head against a door frame and hit her with a heavy dumbbell, causing severe head injuries.
After the assault, Ankur took Kajal to a private hospital. She was later shifted to another hospital, where she was declared brain dead. She was then moved to Ghaziabad for further treatment and remained in critical condition for five days before dying on 27 January 2026.
Police arrested Ankur on the night of 22 January and initially registered a case of attempted murder. After Kajal’s death, the charges were changed to murder. He was produced before a Delhi court and sent to judicial custody. A post-mortem was conducted in Ghaziabad, and the investigation is still ongoing. Police have also added charges related to dowry harassment.
The couple’s son is currently staying with his maternal grandparents. The family has said they will raise the child and explain the incident to him when he is old enough to understand.
The case has deeply disturbed people across the country. The alleged phone call made during the assault and the loss of both a police officer and her unborn child have led to widespread discussion on social media, once again highlighting the harsh reality of domestic violence in society.
