Baramati Woman Tries to Bury Husband in Balcony: Husband Survives
A Baramati woman was arrested for allegedly attacking her husband and hiding him inside an unfinished balcony structure, but he survived and alerted police.
A shocking incident has been reported from Baramati, Maharashtra, where a 38-year-old woman allegedly tried to kill her husband and hide his body inside a partly built structure on the balcony of their home.
The man, 41-year-old Praveen Prakash Jagtap, was an engineer. He lived with his wife Sharmila, their two children, parents and younger brother.
According to police, the couple had been having frequent arguments. Sharmila, who had studied B.Pharm, allegedly said she was unhappy because her husband did not allow her to work and also accused him of physical abuse.
On 30 July, Sharmila allegedly gave Praveen medicine that made him unconscious and attacked him with a cricket bat. Believing that he had died, she allegedly placed him inside an unfinished structure on the balcony and covered him with soil, pillows and sheets.
Workers had been called to the flat for tiling work but became suspicious after noticing something unusual inside the structure. They left the house and informed the police through the emergency number 112.
When police reached the flat, they found Praveen alive inside the structure. He was immediately taken to hospital and survived the attack.
During questioning, Sharmila reportedly told police that she was unhappy with the way her husband treated her. Police also said she was suffering from depression at the time.
After recovering enough to speak, Praveen gave his statement to police and expressed concern about the safety of his children. His father also filed a complaint.
Police arrested Sharmila on 4 August and booked her for attempted murder. Investigators are also looking into other details mentioned by Praveen, including a newly purchased axe and unusual markings on a calendar, to determine whether they are connected to the incident.
The case has shocked local residents, and Praveen's family has since locked the flat and moved elsewhere.
