A shocking incident of violence against healthcare workers took place on 7 July 2026 at KDMC Hospital in Kalyan, Maharashtra.

The incident began when a newborn required urgent NICU treatment, but the hospital's NICU was full. Doctors Dr Srushti Baviskar and Dr Vaibhav Salunkhe advised the family to shift the baby to another hospital.

The family then contacted Shiv Sena corporator Ramesh Mhatre for help. When the doctors could not answer his calls as they were attending to patients, Mhatre allegedly arrived at the hospital with a group of men.

CCTV footage shows the group arguing with doctors before allegedly punching, slapping and pushing doctors and hospital staff for more than three minutes.

Dr Baviskar, Dr Salunkhe and two nurses suffered injuries during the attack.

The incident triggered protests by doctors and hospital employees, who demanded strict action and refused to return to work until an FIR was registered.

Police have launched an investigation, while Ramesh Mhatre has not yet publicly responded to the allegations.
