Census 2027: What It Is and How You Can Fill It Yourself

Census of India 2027 marks India’s first fully digital population survey, introducing online self-enumeration to make data collection faster, easier, and more accurate.

Census of India 2027 has officially begun, marking India’s first fully digital census. Unlike previous paper-based exercises, this census will use mobile apps and online systems to collect data, making the process faster and more efficient.

A census is the government’s large-scale survey to collect information about people, households, and living conditions. This data helps shape policies, welfare schemes, and future development plans.

The process will happen in two phases. The first phase, the House Listing and Housing Census, began on 1 April 2026. Officials are gathering basic household details such as type of house, water and electricity access, household assets, and the number of family members.

The second phase, Population Enumeration, is scheduled for February 2027 and will collect personal details like age, education, occupation, language, and social category.

A major new feature this time is self-enumeration, allowing citizens to submit their census details online through the official portal. This option is available only during the 15 days before officials begin visits in a particular area.

The process is simple: register using your mobile number, verify through OTP, fill in household details, mark your house location on a map, and submit. Once completed, you receive a unique 11-digit Self-Enumeration ID, which can be shown to the census official during verification.

No documents are required—just accurate information. Though optional, this digital system aims to save time, reduce errors, and make India’s largest data collection exercise smoother for everyone.
