Deaf Actress Abhinaya Shares Her Journey and Upcoming Film 'Car Meni Selvam'
Deaf actress Abhinaya’s inspiring 23-year journey highlights the importance of inclusion and representation in the film industry while promoting meaningful storytelling through her upcoming film.
The film industry is highly competitive, and for deaf actors, challenges like communication barriers and limited opportunities make it even tougher to succeed. This highlights the need for greater support, accessibility, and inclusive representation.
One inspiring example is Indian actress Abhinaya, a deaf performer who communicates through speech and sign language. She began her career at age 10 in 2002 and has now completed 23 years in the industry, acting in 64 films across multiple languages including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, and English.
Born in Chennai and now based in Hyderabad, Abhinaya gained recognition with Naadodigal (2009) and has appeared in several notable films across industries.
She will next be seen in the Tamil film Car Meni Selvam, releasing on 3 April 2026 in multiple cities. The film focuses on financial awareness, encouraging smart money management over debt. It will be available with English subtitles and is expected to release later on OTT platforms.
In a conversation with ISH News CEO Alok Kejriwal, Abhinaya shared her journey, expressed gratitude for the support she has received, and encouraged audiences to continue promoting inclusive stories.
