Father Shoots Married Daughter for Having an Affair

A 21-year-old woman from Madhya Pradesh was shot dead by her father over issues related to family honour. Police arrested the accused father who confessed on killing his daughter.

A shocking incident took place on the evening of 13 January in Khiria Thapak village in Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh. The victim, 21-year-old Nidhi Dhanuk, was shot dead by her own father, Munnesh.

Nidhi was married to Devu Dhanuk, a resident of Gwalior, on 11 December. On 28 December, just days after the wedding, Nidhi and her husband went shopping to Maharaj Bada in Gwalior. While there, Nidhi asked her husband to bring water. During that time, she spent around Rs 5,000 and suddenly went missing.

Her husband searched for her along with family members and later filed a missing complaint at the police station. On 5 January, after Nidhi started using a new SIM card, the cyber cell traced her location to Indore. She appeared at Gwalior Kotwali police station on 7 January and stated that she was an adult and had left willingly.

Police found that Nidhi had gone with a young man from her village, reportedly her relative. She also told her father that she was in a secret relationship and had left by choice. Munnesh felt ashamed and repeatedly pressured her to return to her husband’s house, but she refused.

Later, Munnesh tricked her into meeting him and took her to a mustard field, where he shot her in the chest with a country-made pistol, killing her instantly. After the murder, her mother informed the police. Munnesh was arrested and admitted the crime, saying he acted out of shame and pressure from society. The investigation is ongoing.
