Five Men Gang Rape and Murder 10th Standard Student
A 16-year-old girl in Bihar was allegedly lured and attacked by five men, leading to her death under disputed circumstances.
A 16-year-old girl in 10th standard, living in Saran, a village in Bihar, with her mother and two sisters were harassed by a man named Vikas Manjhi, who had previously tried to break into their home to attack her and rape her.
When the family resisted him in the past, he abused them and threatened to kill everyone in the house, even boasting that he could "buy" the police and the courts so that no one could ever harm him.
On 11 March 11 2026, around 3:00 pm, the girl went to her family’s old house to collect some of her belongings. Five men identified as Vikas Manjhi, Sachin Manjhi, Yuvraj Manjhi, Chandan Manjhi, and Ajay Manjhi were already there, lying, waiting for her.
The men dragged the girl into a bathroom inside the house and gang-raped her. The neighbors rushed toward the spot but sadly, they could not reach her in time.
Even after the crime, he did not stop. Vikas, posted a WhatsApp status lip-syncing to a Bhojpuri song.
On 12th March, in a statement released on social media, Saran Police did not mention rape or gang rape.
But then, on 13th March, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed and they waited for the post-mortem report.
During the investigation, a new narrative also emerged from the police. They claimed that Yuvraj Manjhi and the victim were "friends" on Instagram. The girl’s death might have happened after a personal argument between the two of them.
Later, a post-mortem report released on 14th March stated the cause of death was drowning and the there was "no evidence of sexual assault" or "external injuries."
Despite the medical reports saying that it was not a rape, the police understood the family’s concern and they moved forward with charges under the POCSO Act and Section 103 (Murder) of the BNS.
Police arrested Yuvraj Manjhi and the SIT continues to search for the remaining 4 men who fled the village.
Since the incident came on social media, it has become a case of Rajput vs Dalit. The girl belonged to the Rajput community and the boys who raped her were from the Dalit community.
