Kolkata Horror: Law Student Gang-Raped in College
TMC student leader among 3 arrested for gang-raping law student inside Kolkata college after luring her into union room, sparking political outrage.
A 24-year-old law student was brutally gang-raped inside South Kolkata Law College on June 26 by three men, including a Trinamool Congress (TMC) student leader. The accused—Monojit Mishra (31), Zaib Ahmed (19), and Pramit Mukherjee (20)—lured her into the college union room, locked her inside, and assaulted her for hours while threatening her with leaked videos and political retaliation.
The Horrific Incident
After submitting her exam form, the victim was coerced into the union room, where she was isolated, threatened, and raped repeatedly in the guard room. The accused snatched her phone, ignored her pleas, and warned her against reporting the crime. Despite initial fear, she filed a complaint the next day, leading to their arrest.
Political Backlash
The case has sparked outrage, with BJP leaders blaming TMC for "turning Bengal into a nightmare for women." TMC condemned the crime but faced criticism after two leaders made victim-blaming remarks, later dismissed as "personal views."
Evidence & Investigation
CCTV footage confirms the victim’s forced confinement, while medical reports and phone videos substantiate her account. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) is probing the case, with four arrests made so far, including a security guard.
Protests erupted outside the college and Kasba Police Station, demanding justice. The survivor, traumatized, is receiving psychological support.
