Truck Accident in Rampur, BEST Bus Crash in Mumbai

Four people died after a BEST bus lost control outside Bhandup station. In another incident in Rampur, a truck overturned onto a Bolero, killing its driver instantly.

A tragic road accident near Bhandup railway station in Mumbai claimed four lives and left nine others injured on Monday night. The incident took place around 10.05 pm when a BEST bus taking a sharp U-turn suddenly lost control, hit a roadside pole, and drove onto the footpath. Several pedestrians standing near the station entrance were run over in the accident.

Among the deceased were three women and one man: Mansi Gurav (45), a nurse at Sion Hospital; Pranita Rasam (31), a small-time actress; Varsha Sawant (25); and Prashant Shinde, an employee of the traffic department. One woman and eight men were also injured.

The bus, an electric AC vehicle operating on route number 606 from the Vikhroli depot, was driven by Santosh Sawant (52), who was working on a contract basis. Bhandup police detained Sawant and are preparing to file an FIR for rash and negligent driving causing death. BEST suspended the driver and ordered an internal inquiry.

Fire brigade teams, police, BEST staff and 108 ambulance services quickly reached the spot for rescue operations. The injured were moved to a nearby hospital, and police began investigating the exact cause of the accident. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced a financial assistance of ?5 lakh for each of the victims’ families.

In a similar incident last year, on 9th December 2024, another electric BEST bus crashed into several pedestrians and 22 vehicles.

In Uttar Pradesh, another fatal accident occurred on 28th December 2025 in Rampur district when a truck loaded with husk overturned onto a Bolero. The Bolero driver, Firasat (40), died instantly as the truck crushed the vehicle on NH-74. Rescue teams used cranes and a JCB machine to retrieve the body. Police are searching for the truck driver, who fled the scene.
