What are the Epstein Files? Trump, Clinton & Other Names Explained

The newly released Epstein files reveal investigation records, photos, and documents linked to Jeffrey Epstein and his powerful social circle

Jeffrey Epstein was a very rich and secretive man who spent time with politicians, actors, princes, and other powerful people. For many years, the public did not know where his money came from or what he did privately. Epstein owned a private island called Little Saint James in the U.S. Virgin Islands, which later became known as “Epstein Island” because of its secrecy and the allegations linked to it. The island had luxury buildings, a helipad, tight security, and controlled entry.

According to court records and victim statements, the island was one of the places where Epstein allegedly took underage girls. Many were brought there by private jet or boat. The island felt isolated and frightening to witnesses. After Epstein was arrested in 2019, law enforcement searched the property.

Epstein had been accused of abuse since the early 2000s, but a 2008 plea deal protected him from larger charges. The case returned to the news in 2018–2019, and in 2019 he was charged with sex trafficking of minors. He died in jail that same year, officially ruled a suicide.

After his death, courts and lawmakers forced the U.S. Justice Department to release documents related to him under what became popularly known as the “Epstein Files Transparency Act.” These include photos, emails, FBI notes, and investigation materials. More than 11,000 documents have been released so far, with many more still under review.

Judges warn that being named in a document does not mean guilt. Some files also contain fake documents circulating online, adding confusion. The records shocked people because Epstein had access to powerful individuals, received protection for years, and left many questions unanswered
