What is the Cockroach Janta Party?
A Supreme Court remark meant for people with “fake degrees” spiralled into a viral Gen Z political meme movement called the “Cockroach Janta Party,” blending internet humour, outrage, and politics.
On 15 May 2026, during a Supreme Court hearing about fake law degrees and misuse of professions, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant used words like “cockroaches” and “parasites” while criticizing people allegedly entering fields like law and media using bogus qualifications.
A clip from the hearing quickly went viral online, with many believing the comments were directed at unemployed youth in general. Social media erupted in outrage — and within hours, the internet turned the controversy into a political meme movement.
A 30-year-old US-based Indian named Abhijeet Dipke launched the “Cockroach Janta Party” (CJP), complete with a logo, website, social media pages, membership forms, and even a manifesto.
The party’s promises included:
-
No Rajya Sabha seats for retired Chief Justices
-
Strict action against unfair voter deletion
-
55% reservation for women
-
Fast investigations into voter list removals
-
More youth participation in politics
The meme-party exploded online. CJP reportedly crossed over 6 lakh registrations, while its Instagram following even surpassed that of the BJP. Social media filled with slogans like:
“Main bhi cockroach”
“Cockroaches unite”
and “Cockroach lives matter.”
However, the next day, CJI Surya Kant clarified that his remarks were being misquoted. He said he was only criticizing people using fake degrees to enter professions — not unemployed youth.
But by then, the meme wave had already taken over the internet.
The story became more political after people pointed out that Dipke had previously worked with the social media team of Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party between 2020 and 2023. Critics accused him of turning a viral moment into political branding, especially after old pro-AAP and anti-BJP posts resurfaced online.
Interestingly, the meme-politics didn’t stop there.
Social media influencer Lochan Maru launched a rival meme-party called “Indian National Cockroaches” (INC), joking that even meme parties need an opposition.
Then on 21 May 2026, Dipke claimed on X that the CJP account had been withheld in India following a legal demand, adding another twist to one of the internet’s strangest political moments.
What started as a courtroom remark quickly became a viral mix of outrage, memes, politics, and Gen Z internet culture.
