14-Year-Old Dressed as Radha Kidnapped and Raped on Janmashtami
A 14-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and sexually assaulted during Janmashtami celebrations in Muzaffarnagar, with all three accused later arrested.
A 14-year-old girl in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, left home on the night of 4 September to visit a temple during the midnight Janmashtami celebrations.
Dressed as Radha, she was reportedly approached by three youths — Sameer, Waleen and Salman — who allegedly abducted her and took her to a room in Sameer’s house, where she was sexually assaulted.
When the girl did not return home, her family began searching for her and found her at Sameer’s house in a distressed condition. Based on her complaint, police registered a case of abduction and rape.
Sameer was arrested the same day, while Waleen and Salman remained absconding. On 6 September, police located the two suspects near Reta Nangla village. Police said the suspects opened fire when officers approached them, leading to an exchange of fire in which both were injured and arrested. Two illegal pistols and ammunition were reportedly recovered from them.
The incident has sparked strong reactions. Swami Yashveer Ji Maharaj, head priest of Yoga Sadhana Ashram, called for strict action against the accused and demanded that their homes be demolished.
Uttar Pradesh Minister and MLA Kapil Dev Agarwal also met the girl’s family and assured them that strict action would be taken against all three accused.
