In a horrifying and deeply tragic incident, 23-year-old Haryanvi model Sheetal—popularly known as Simmy Chaudhry—was found murdered in Sonipat’s Kharkhoda canal on 16th June 2025. Her throat had been slit, and her lifeless body was seen floating in the water. Originally from Khalila Majra village in Panipat, Sheetal was a young, ambitious woman who had only joined the Haryanvi music industry six months ago.
Before pursuing her modelling dreams, Sheetal worked at a hotel in Karnal where she reportedly met a man named Sunil who is now a prime suspect in her murder. The timeline of events paints a disturbing picture.
On 14th June 2025, Sheetal left for a music video shoot in Ahar village. That night, at 8:30 p.m., she called her sister Neha in fear. She said that Sunil had shown up at the shoot, physically assaulted her and was pressuring her to come with him. Before Neha could respond, the call abruptly disconnected. Sheetal could not be contacted again. Neha immediately filed a missing person’s complaint.
Two days later, on 16th June, Sheetal’s body was discovered in a canal. Police identified her based on family confirmation and the earlier missing report. A deep neck injury confirmed she had been murdered.
Who is Sunil? Sunil was the hotel owner where Sheetal once worked. Their acquaintance reportedly grew into a friendship but things turned sour when he allegedly proposed marriage despite being already married with two children. When Sheetal refused, Sunil allegedly began to harass and follow her. She eventually quit her job to escape him.
Shockingly, on 15th June, just one day after her disappearance, Sunil’s car was found submerged in a Delhi canal. He was rescued and taken to a hospital in Panipat but Sheetal was not with him. Her sister Neha firmly believes this was a staged accident to divert suspicion and that Sunil murdered her sister and dumped her body.
Police are now questioning people from the music shoot, Sunil’s relatives, and locals. Sheetal’s last call naming Sunil, his sudden canal crash and witness reports from the shoot site form key pieces of evidence. Authorities are awaiting a post-mortem report to confirm the exact cause and time of death.
Sunil remains under observation in hospital, with police stationed outside his room. His formal statement will be taken once doctors allow it.
Neha is demanding justice. “He beat my sister. She told me his name just before she vanished. Now she is dead. He must be punished,” she told reporters.
This heartbreaking case brings forward urgent questions about women’s safety in workplaces, especially in industries like modelling and entertainment where background checks are often neglected. Sheetal’s story is not just about murder. It’s about how obsession and harassment, when ignored, can end in tragedy.
What do you think? Should India strengthen laws to protect women from stalking and harassment? Should more support be provided to victims when they raise concerns?
