Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has married senior journalist Nidhi Razdan in a private wedding ceremony on 30 October 2026. The couple announced their marriage on social media on 31 October, sharing photographs from the celebrations. Omar shared four photographs with Nidhi on X and wrote, “A new journey began yesterday.” Nidhi also shared photographs and wrote, “It’s done bro,” along with a ring emoji. Their posts quickly went viral, with people congratulating the couple.

According to media reports, the marriage was solemnised under the Special Marriage Act, 1954. Family members from both sides attended the wedding celebrations. Omar’s parents, National Conference president Farooq Abdullah and Mollie Abdullah, were present along with his three sisters and other relatives. Nidhi’s parents, veteran journalist M.K. Razdan and Sarla Razdan, also attended the celebrations.

Omar Abdullah’s First Marriage and Divorce

This is Omar Abdullah’s second marriage. He married Payal Nath on 1 September 1994. The couple have two sons, Zahir and Zamir. The couple had been living separately for several years. Omar filed for divorce, but a family court in Delhi rejected his petition in August 2016. The court found that he had not established the grounds of cruelty required for a divorce.

The Delhi High Court upheld the family court’s decision in December 2023. Omar later approached the Supreme Court. On 31 July 2026, the court was informed that Omar and Payal had reached a mutual settlement and wanted to end their marriage by mutual consent.

The Supreme Court accepted their agreement and dissolved the marriage. Both sides also agreed to withdraw their pending legal cases against each other. Omar’s marriage to Nidhi comes around three months after the Supreme Court’s decision.

Who Is Nidhi Razdan?

Nidhi Razdan is a well-known Indian journalist and television news anchor. She worked with NDTV for more than 20 years and became widely known for hosting its political discussion programme, Left, Right & Centre. She is also the author of the book Left, Right & Centre: The Idea of India, published in 2017.

The couple's marriage announcement drew congratulatory messages from political leaders, colleagues and people on social media.
