Jamui Viral Video: Main Accused Shot in the Leg During Police Encounter
A viral video showing two Class 10 students being harassed in Bihar's Jamui led to a police investigation, with the main accused arrested and several others taken into custody.
A video showing a minor girl and her male friend being harassed and assaulted by a group of men in Bihar's Jamui district has gone viral on social media.
The incident took place on September 19, 2026, when the two Class 10 students were returning on a scooter after visiting the Madwa Pahad area. According to police, the group stopped the two students, abused and assaulted them, and chased them when they tried to leave.
The video shows the boy being assaulted while the girl is grabbed and harassed. The two students can also be heard asking the group to let them go. The video began spreading widely online on September 21, leading to public outrage and a police investigation.
Jamui Police formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to identify and arrest those involved. The police identified around seven people connected to the incident.
On September 22, police arrested Nandan Yadav, identified as the main accused. Police said he was found near Madwa Pahad and was injured in the leg during an encounter while officers were trying to arrest him. He was taken to a government hospital for treatment. Reports said the total number of arrests had reached six, including three juveniles.
The police have also taken action against social media accounts that shared the video of the minors. 13 Facebook accounts, 12 Instagram accounts, and 7 X accounts have so far been suspended. Police warned that sharing a video that shows the identity or face of a minor girl is itself a crime.
The incident has also led to political reactions, with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi calling the incident deeply disturbing and questioning the safety of girls in Bihar.

The Jamui incident has also brought attention to other cases involving the harassment of women and girls in Bihar.
In March 2026, a woman in Nalanda was allegedly harassed by a group of men after they suspected her of having an affair. A video of the incident later circulated online.
In another recent case in Nawada, the principal of a government school was arrested after girl students accused him of inappropriate behaviour.
The Jamui investigation is continuing, while police have appealed to people not to circulate the video involving the minor.
