Karnataka: Deaf Woman Raped in Chitradurga Taluk

Police nabbed a man on charges of raping a Deaf woman, in a village in Chitradurga Taluk.

In Holalkere near Chitradurga District in Karnataka, a 19 year old Deaf woman had gone to Davangere to visit her parents. She returned to Holalkere in the last bus at night on 16th September. She started walking towards her home which is just 200m from the bus stand. A man came from behind, attacked her and raped her. She sustained injuries on her body as she reportedly resisted the sexual assault.The man raped her and ran away. Later, she was taken to a hospital. After learning about the incident, people gathered at the hospital and demanded stringent punishment for the rapist. The police soon arrested the rapist. His name was Nagesh and he was a resident of Lakshmisagar. 

When the police were taking him to the police station, people gathered outside tried to beat up Nagesh but police resorted to light lathi charge to disperse the mob. The police have a registered a case of rape and investigations are going on. There were protests in several places as people demanded strict punishment for the rapist. The details about what happened after the rape are not clear as news companies have not published a lot of details.
