Man Stabbed Outside Mahim Railway: Ego, Anger or Drugs?

A minor collision outside Mahim railway station turned into a brutal stabbing, highlighting the dangers of anger, violence, and road rage in public places.

On the night of 25 June 2026, 35-year-old Naveen Subhash Prasanna, an office boy from Mahim, Mumbai, Maharashtra, was returning home after work from Lower Parel.

At around 10:00 pm, after getting off a slow local train at Mahim railway station, Naveen accidentally bumped into a man on Senapati Bapat Marg outside the station. The collision caused the man's mobile phone to fall.

Naveen immediately apologised, saying it was an accident. However, the man became angry, abused him, claimed his phone had broken, and demanded compensation. When Naveen refused and tried to walk away, the man followed him.

Around 10:15 pm, the accused suddenly pulled out a knife and stabbed Naveen multiple times, causing a serious injury to the left side of his abdomen.

As Naveen cried for help, people from nearby hotels and paan shops rushed to assist him. But the attacker allegedly waved the blood-stained knife and threatened to kill anyone who came close before escaping.

Despite his injuries, Naveen managed to reach home. His brothers rushed him to Sion Hospital, where he remains under treatment. His brother Sachin said Naveen was unconscious for nearly 15 hours after the attack. Naveen is the sole earning member of his family.

Mahim Police registered a case of attempt to murder under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. After analysing CCTV footage and technical evidence, police arrested the accused, Anas Khan, from Wadala three days later. Investigators say he is a drug addict. He has been remanded to police custody, while police continue searching for the weapon and investigating the motive.

This is the second stabbing incident reported in Mumbai within a week, following the fatal stabbing of a passenger on a Mumbai local train. Another recent case involved a college professor being stabbed inside a train coach near Malad station.

These repeated incidents raise serious concerns about rising violence over minor disputes. In this case, what began as an accidental collision quickly turned into a life-threatening attack. Such incidents remind us of the importance of staying calm, controlling our anger and ego, and being more mindful while travelling in crowded public places.
