Pakistan Refuses to Import Cotton & Sugar

Pakistan has refused to lift the ban against importing Sugar & Cotton despite the rising prices in the country.

For the last 2 years, the Pakistan Government has imposed a strict ban on importing cotton and sugar from India.  On 31st March,  Finance Minister Hammad Azhar proposed the Pakistan cabinet to allow the import of sugar & cotton. He made the proposal to import these commodities to overcome a severe shortage of these commodities and bring their increasing prices under control. However, yesterday, the parliament refused to remove the ban and said Pakistan will not allow import of sugar and cotton till India reimposes Article 370 on J&K and gives it special rules. Currently J&K is a Union Territory and is governed just like other Indian states and UTs.

Praful Vithalani, Chairman, All India Sugar Traders Association said, ““No country should impose restrictions on essential commodities, which are needed by human beings. Politics should be kept out of essential commodities. This is why Pakistan is not developing.” Compared to Pakistan, India does not refuse to export things to countries. India has always allowed exporting things to its neighbouring countries.
