Virat Kohli: Forcefully Removed as ODI Captain

Indian cricketer Virat Kohli has revealed he wasn't told to not leave the T20I captaincy ahead of India's tour of South Africa.

Last month,Virat Kohli stepped down as India's T20I captain. The ICC T20 World Cup was his last assignment as India's T20I skipper.  Post the event, Rohit Sharma took charge as India's skipper in T20Is.

According to BCCI President Sourav Ganguly : “Virat had asked the BCCI for a break from ODI captaincy. The decision for him to step down as captain was not sudden. It had been planned for a long time and the BCCI had asked Virat to stay as T20 captain but Virat decided to step down anyway. We had given Virat 48 hours to quit as ODI captain.” However yesterday, Virat Kohli held a press conference and completely contradicted Sourav’s statement. He has said that, ‘Whatever the BCCI said about communicating with me about the captaincy is inaccurate. India & South Africa are playing a Test & ODI series on 26 December. 90 mins before announcing the Test series, the BCCI called me and told me that I will not be captain. It was all of a sudden. But I respect their decision and have no hard feelings. When I told them I don’t want to be captain for a T20 match, they had no problem. They did not ask me to stay. I have no problem with Rohit Sharma being ODI captain and will always support the team.”  Virat Kohli’s statement shows that the BCCI does not communicate with its players properly and makes decisions without consulting them.
